Word-Crafting and Poetry Appreciation Group - Online

  • Wild Words Online (map)
Writing for wellbeing on top of the mountain

In this regular monthly online group, Bridget offers an inspired fusion of the sacred/spiritual, psychological/therapeutic and nature-based creative writing theory and practice.

This month, continuing last month’s Valentine’s Day theme, you’ll be guided to craft a love poem. This will be a portal to exploring the sacred as well as disowned aspects of self, interruptions to contact and projection. ❤️

She likes to think of herself as re-wilding the writer - to survive and thrive. The London School of Economics says her approach is ‘revitalising traditional creative writing teaching’.

What we do:

Explore and free up creative process: we set up a held, relaxed, present space in terms that work for you: accessing the ‘natural storyteller’, source, the creative muse, our authentic self, our Being…

Creative writing skills/technique: narrative structure, setting, metaphor, use of senses, body and emotion, point of view, rhythm and movement, character and dialogue, tension and humour, style/form, fusing genres and many more…

Readings of inspiring poetry/prose by well-known as well as ‘lost’ voices.

Writing prompt and ‘experiment’: You’ll then be guided to undertake a piece of writing (poetry or short prose). You’ll be asked to work from your own experience (although that may, on occasion, spin off into fiction).

Sharing work: There will be time, for those who wish, to read and receive constructive feedback from Bridget and their peers.

Preparatory Work/ Follow-up: Before the session, you’ll receive an email with an optional writing ‘experiment’ to undertake and bring with you on the day. After the group, you’ll receive a follow-up email summary with links to the material shared in the session.

The writer’s life: discussion on how to begin, continue and get to the end of writing projects. How to get your work published and out into the world.

We’ll draw on a wide range of sources from many traditions. To name just a few: Mary Oliver, Rumi, Rupi Kaur, Brené Brown, Gabor Mate, Bessel van der Kolk, Peter Levine, Rupert Spira, Ekhart Tolle, Thich Nhat Hahn. Helen Macdonald, Nan Shephard, Clarissa Pinkola Estés.

Come and harness the power of words to speak of what is outside words (a wonderful paradox to play with!) Prepare to be bombarded by beautiful quotes :)

We write for many reasons: to deepen spiritual experience, know ourselves or heal; to share a message, enable others to experience the thrill of a good story, make money or process emotion, All word lovers - novice or experienced - are equally welcome. Come if you have a story to tell… Come even if you’re not sure what that story is…

Skills learnt can be taken into all genres of writing, fiction and non-fiction, spoken word and storytelling. The group is also suitable for teachers/ therapists interested in incorporating writing/storytelling into their work.
