Word-Crafting Monthly Group - Online

  • Wild Words SY8 4DS (map)
Writing above the clouds

This event is now fully booked. To be put on the waiting list for a place please email hello@wildwords.org.

In this month’s online group, we’ll start with an evocative subject.

We’ll read a range of inspiring words - in fiction, non-fiction and poetry - to appreciate the varied approaches and techniques writers and poets have used to explore it.

There will then be time to write on that subject in your chosen genre.

Participants can choose to share work in the group for supportive feedback. There is no obligation to share your writing unless you want to!

5.30pm - 7.30pm CEST - Europe/ 4.30pm - 6.30pm BST - UK (See below for other time zones.)

More about what we do:

Explore and free up creative process: when we take the reader/ listener to a place of satisfaction, we, the writer also arrive; we overcome block and enter into flow.

Creative writing skills/technique: narrative structure, setting, metaphor, use of senses, body and emotion, point of view, rhythm and movement, character and dialogue, tension and humour, style/form, fusing genres and many more…

Sources referenced range from the poetry of Mary Oliver and Rumi to crime fiction, memoir, flash fiction, short stories and film screenplays.

Preparatory Work/ Follow-up: Before the session, you’ll receive an email with an optional writing ‘experiment’ to undertake and bring with you on the day. After the group, you’ll receive a follow-up email summary with links to the material shared in the session.

The writer’s life: discussion on how to begin, continue and get to the end of writing projects. How to get your work published and out into the world.

Fledgling and experienced writers are equally welcome. Come if you have a story to tell… Come even if you’re not sure what that story is…

Skills learnt can be taken into all genres of writing, fiction and non-fiction, spoken word and storytelling. The group is also suitable for teachers/ therapists interested in incorporating writing/storytelling into their work.

In this regular monthly group we’re re-wilding the writer - to survive and thrive. The London School of Economics talks about Bridget’s approach as ‘revitalising traditional creative writing teaching’.
